Residential Infill Project – information on proposed higher density zoning changes

The City of Portland’s proposal to significantly change the zoning code to increase building density on currently zoned R2.5, R5, and R7 residential lots is now moving through revisions at BDS and City Council.  This program will allow construction of 4-plex apartments, triplexs, and duplexes, and provide one or two additional ADU “granny flats” on most residential lots in Portland, as well as, various combinations of single family homes, multi-plexes, and ADUs on one lot.  This proposal also significantly alters the existing rules for development standards of height, size, FAR, type, and layout plan of new residential construction.  This will affect most of the zoned lots in the Reed Neighborhood.

This process continues to go through public comment, legal challenges, and modifications at the city level with expected City Council vote some time this summer.  If you are interested in these proposed Land Use changes and Zoning changes, we encourage you to learn more about this and get involved by submitting comment to the City of Portland or checking out some of the other resources on this.
