For over 40 years Lambert Gardens was a Portland landmark and a truly unique piece of the Reed neighborhoods history.  While many of us have read about Lambert Gardens, actually seeing these original postcards is a real treat. Several of our longtime neighbors still remember Lambert Gardens well, especially the peacocks that would wonder up into the neighborhoods and have to be shooed off the roofs!
The history of Lambert Gardens is fairly well documented, but the abbreviated story is this; Around 1925 Andrew Lambert moved to Portland from Georgia.  He was a landscape gardener and started the gardens to exhibit his landscape techniques.  Divided into 10 unique areas Lambert Gardens rambled over 30 acres and extended from the intersection of SE Steele and SE 28th east almost to SE 32nd and north to around SE Raymond.  Over it’s years of operation Lambert Gardens had over 1,000,000 visitors.
